Aft 1920 (Age > 83 years) Mother Betsy Lusk, b. 1880, Tennessee, USA Married 1896 Tennessee, USA Notes - According to the 1900 census, Stephen has remarried to Betsie Lusk, but the children that are listed, Buford, age 28, (this is a very garbled name and could be just about anything) and Lizzie, age 22, along with Rebecca, age 6, is very odd. Elizabeth, already married at this point, should be 35 years old, and Rebecca would be 28. Initially it would seem that perhaps this is a different Stephen, but Stephen is a very uncommon name for Layne and this Stephen is the only one that makes sense.
Stephen is missing in 1910, but resurfaces in 1920 as a divorcee with children Alexander, age 18, and William, age 14. Again very odd as Stephen already has a son Alex "Shirf" Layne born in 1875.
The 1900 and 1920 census returns raise a lot of questions and additional research is needed to confirm this information.
