  Educated at Victoria and Sulphur Springs (near Powell's Crossroads) in Marion Co., then Dunlap Elementary in Sequatchie County. Attended North Side Jr. High and City High School in Chattanooga where he graduated with a grant to play football at Middle Georgia Junior College in Cochran, GA. Attended Middle Georgia for two years then transferred to Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA where he received his bachelor's degree. Served in the US Army. Member at St. Luke Methodist in Chattanooga. Employed as plant manager with Southern Champion Tray Company which produces paperboard products.
