  Notes	In the 1900 census Letha states that she has given birth to 13 children, but only 7 of them are still living at this time. Most can be accounted for, but there are a few listed in the Layne genealogy book that cannot. Given the gap between James and John and that Letha would have been beyond typical child bearing years after 1880, it's likely that she gave birth to these children between 1870 and 1880 and that they did not survive to adulthood.

  Notes	Henry and Oscar both claim their mother's maiden name was Fanny Layne on delayed birth certificates, she is listed in all census records as Martha. In addition, there an affidavit is swore to by an uncle "Mark" on Henry's birth certificate in 1950, meaning this Mark had to be alive at that point. This leads me to believe that Martha (Fanny) must have been the daughter of Alexander and Margaret (McDaniel) Layne.
