Maybe I missed this on Thursday’s version of Monday Night Football, but last night I’m all jazzed about hearing the familiar strains of Hank Williams Jr. asking me if I’m ready for some football. And so he began and then to my horror, Hank was joined by infamous bubble gum pop star, Madonna kissing, 13 year old teenage girl idol. Britney Spears. ::blink:: Please I’m not trying to be sexist (although ABC most certainly is), but Britney Spears is not what I think of when I think of when I think of football. While I can almost picture Bocephus kicking back with a cold one and watching the game with a bunch of other guys. I just can’t see it with Britney. I can see her in a club suite making comments about the cute butts that some of the guys have perhaps and wondering if the home team scored a first down.

Maybe I’m wrong, perhaps Britney is a rabid NFL fan, but MNF’s hiring of Lisa Guerrero to work the sidelines shows that ABC is trying to inject a little sex into the show to help lift their sinking ratings. That’s all well and good, but if that’s the case, and I can’t imagine that they hired Lisa because of her impeccable credentials, then be blatant about it. Have Lisa G. parade around in some racy lingerie or something while giving her sideline reports. Or hey, maybe America could call in and decide which player she gets to marry at the end of the game. Oh and while your at it if your going to let Britney sing with Hank, she could at least kiss on him like she did Madonna. I’m sure Hank wouldn’t mind.

Or perhaps I’m looking at this all wrong. Maybe ABC has decided that Monday Night Football’s core demographic is 12-15 year old girls. If so, then they are on the right track.
