Living with John Lain Sr. Though Daniel isn't mentioned by name, the age group is correct for (15-20)

The other Laynes (Lane) included in this list match those we'd expect to find if this is our Daniel. Besides Daniel, there is Abraham (brother), David (brother), Stephen (nephew), John Sr. (father), John Jr. (brother), William Jr (nephew?), William Sr (brother?) as well as Nancy Kilgore (sister)
William Sr., and Jr is a curiosity though. David's son William would have been twenty years old at this time, so perhaps he is listed as William Lane Jr to make him distinct from the other.

Males <5: 3, 5<10: 2, 20<30: 1
Females: 20<30: 1, 60<70: 1
Female 60<70 is likely Barbara (DeVault) Layne living with Daniel by this time.

Daniel Lane appears on several of the records in this collection including entries 1824, 5031, 8371, 9147, 10136, 11592 and 11601. While these are likely this Daniel, entries 8371, 9147 and 11601 are noteworthy as they mention additional relatives.

This seems like a crazy amount of land and Daniel's acreage is indicated as 2,000 by 1860. To get an idea how much land 10,400 acres is, it would equal nearly 5% of all the land in Grundy County.

My best guess for the location this property is somewhere just west of Burkett Chapel Cemetery in Marion County, Tennessee

The district changes from 4 in the 1850 census to 5 in the 1860 census, but I don't believe Daniel moved. Rather the districts were redrawn or lived close to a boundary between districts.

Daniel could neither read nor write according to this census. Also, he has been remarried 15 years at this point.
